fine art

Multimedia fine art that emphasizes the use of solid hardwoods.

the background

Over several years of working professionally as a graphic designer, and unprofessionally as a woodworker, I gradually combined the two into a new style of artwork. I create original illustrations using Adobe Illustrator and bring them to life using various types of hardwood, natural materials, paint, and resin. Each individual piece of an illustration is cut from solid hardwood, hand sanded, finished with 100% tung oil, and assembled by hand on a custom-made wood panel. The result creates a textural, 2.5D/3D effect that extrudes out from the panel and interacts with light and shadows.

I have shown in galleries and participated in many of Minnesota's largest art fairs, winning "Festival Favorite" at the 2022 Stone Arch Bridge Festival in Minneapolis.

Below are images of some of my favorite projects over the years; some commissioned by clients, others for gallery representation, and others just for fun.
